In his speech at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on the occasion of the 16th Civil Services Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the contribution of civil servants towards India's rapid development. He emphasized that India's progress would not have been possible without their active participation and appreciated their dedication towards nation-building.
Motivating Civil Servants to Serve the Nation
PM Modi encouraged civil servants to work even harder and stated that their accomplishments would be judged by how they have transformed people's lives through their work, rather than their personal achievements. He urged them to continue serving the nation with zeal, especially during the crucial phase of Amrit Kaal, referring to the period of India's 75th year of Independence celebrations. He highlighted that civil servants, as Yuva Karmayogi Saathi, will play a crucial role in shaping the development of New India during this period.
Last-Mile Delivery as the Deciding Factor
PM Modi emphasized that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, India has emerged as the world's third-largest startup ecosystem. He stated that the last-mile delivery of government initiatives is the deciding factor for their success. He highlighted the government's vision of serving everyone by efficiently utilizing time and resources, with a focus on putting the nation and citizens first.
Recognition for Excellence in Public Administration

These awards recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by districts and organizations of the Central and State Governments for the welfare of common citizens. The PM Gati Shakti national master plan initiative, launched in October 2021 for integrated and planned development of critical infrastructure projects to reduce logistics costs, was among the initiatives that received the award for excellence in public administration-2022.
India's Achievements & Future Vision
PM Modi highlighted India's achievements, including being ranked number one in digital payments and having one of the cheapest mobile data rates in the world. He also emphasized the transformation of India's rural economy. He stated that the expectations of the global community from India have increased, and India's time has come. He reiterated the government's vision of putting the nation and citizens first in its efforts towards efficient governance.
National Civil Services Day serves as a platform to acknowledge the tireless efforts of civil servants, recognize their achievements, and motivate them to continue their valuable contributions towards building a stronger and prosperous India.
National Civil Services Day & Its Significance
National Civil Services Day is dedicated to commemorating the exemplary work of civil servants and reflecting on their achievements. The date, April 21, was chosen for this day to commemorate the address by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Independent India's first home minister, to the probationers of the Administrative Services Officers in 1947. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had acknowledged civil servants as the "steel frame of India" in his inspirational speech. On National Civil Services Day, the government evaluates the work of various departments and presents awards to recognize the contributions of civil servants towards nation-building.
