In a video address to the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the importance of upskilling the global workforce using advanced technologies and processes.

He highlighted the critical role of skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling in preparing for the future workforce, asserting that these are the mantras for success.

During his speech, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that a globally mobile workforce is becoming an inevitable reality. He urged the G20 to lead in promoting the development and sharing of skills internationally, recognizing the potential for countries to collaborate in addressing the challenges of a mobile workforce.

Skill India Mission & Potential as a Skilled Workforce Provider

 Prime Minister Modi showcased the nation's commitment to connecting with the evolving demands of the global workforce through India's Skill India Mission. He lauded the dedication and skills demonstrated by frontline health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting India's culture of service and compassion.

He gave examples of India’s ‘Skill India Mission’ making this a reality, and ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana’ which has trained more than 12.5 million of India’s youth so far. 

Addressing the rapid changes brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the role of technology as a core driver for employment. He highlighted India's capability to create tech-based jobs during technological transformations and the government's focus on sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, the Internet of Things, and Drones.

Prime Minister Modi called upon the G20 to play a pivotal role in globalizing the development and sharing of skills. He urged the group to work together in shaping responsive and effective strategies to address the ongoing transitions in the employment sector, fostering a skilled and adaptable workforce for the future.
