The recently concluded G-20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi has been hailed as a monumental achievement for India's diplomacy and a significant setback for China, according to Mukesh Aghi, President of the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum. Aghi expressed his views in an interview with PTI, emphasizing two key summit outcomes.
Aghi underlined the significance of India's emergence as the leader of the Global South, asserting that this development was a blow to China, which notably did not send its president to the summit. He described the G-20 summit as a crowning moment for India and congratulated the Indian leadership for their success.
Aghi expressed surprise at issuing a communique from the G-20 summit, as initial expectations were low. He lauded the Indian leadership for not only conveying a strong message but also for the inclusive process that involved various Indian cities in pre-summit meetings. This approach aimed to present a positive image of India to the world.
Success of Indian Diplomacy
The business leader hailed the successful crafting and release of a communique in a world marked by divisions as a testament to Indian diplomacy's success. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for this achievement. He suggested that China's President Xi Jinping's absence inadvertently created an environment where President Biden and Prime Minister Modi could advance their agendas more effectively.
India's Growing Influence and Power
Aghi highlighted India's growing economic prowess, nearing a $4 trillion economy and poised to reach $5 trillion in the next two years. He also emphasized India's ascent as a rising power and eventually a great power on the global stage. The flawless execution of the G-20 Summit conveyed the message that India has arrived as a major player in international affairs.
India's Voice for the Global South
Aghi commended India for successfully advocating for Africa's inclusion in the G-20, which reinforced India's position as a representative voice for the Global South. He attributed the success of the G-20 Summit to Prime Minister Modi's leadership and his agenda, which focused on "One Earth, One Family, One Future." This agenda prioritized collaboration with emerging countries to address diverse global challenges, from food and supply chains to energy and technology.
