In a historic move towards transforming India into a prominent semiconductor manufacturing hub,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 'India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat' program today, laying the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crores. The Prime Minister conducted the inauguration via video conferencing, marking a significant leap towards bolstering India’s technological capabilities.

The semiconductor facilities inaugurated today include a Semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Morigaon, Assam, and another OSAT facility at Sanand, Gujarat.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that these projects would play a pivotal role in establishing India as a semiconductor hub. He commended the citizens for their support and noted the virtual presence of semiconductor industry players from Taiwan, underlining the global significance of the occasion.

Highlighting the participation of more than 60,000 colleges, universities, and educational institutes, the Prime Minister emphasised the youth's role as key stakeholders in shaping India's future. "A self-confident youth changes the destiny of the nation," Modi added, as he acknowledged the strides made towards self-reliance and a strong global presence.

Chipping In for Progress: Mega Semiconductor Initiative for a Tech-Savvy India

Underlining the importance of electronic chips in the 21st century, the Prime Minister stressed the role of Made in India and Designed in India chips in achieving self-reliance and modernisation. He positioned India to lead Industry 4.0, citing the rapid progress made in the semiconductor field after the announcement of the semiconductor mission two years ago.

“India commits, India delivers, and democracy delivers,” proclaimed the Prime Minister, emphasising India's commitment to becoming a key player in global semiconductor manufacturing. He discussed the need for a reliable supply chain, especially in the wake of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking towards the future, Modi outlined India's plans for commercial production in the semiconductor sector, projecting the country as a global power in semiconductor manufacturing. He credited policy decisions, such as Ease of Doing Business and simplification of laws, for India's strategic advantage in this arena.

The Prime Minister touched upon India's growing position in electronics and hardware manufacturing, citing initiatives like PLI schemes and electronic clusters. He informed that India is now the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally and highlighted advancements in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

Modi stated that semiconductor research would benefit the youth the most, opening the door to boundless potential across various industries. He praised Indian talent in global chip design and manufacturing, emphasising the completion of India's talent ecosystem in the semiconductor sector.

Prime Minister Modi called upon everyone to strengthen India's progress, asserting, "Modi’s guarantee is for you and your future." The event was attended by Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of Assam and Gujarat, and industry leaders.
