During the expo, the IBA garnered investments worth Rs 2,755 crore, setting the stage for a promising future for India's biogas sector. At the core of this achievement is the substantial influx of investments. The IBA successfully attracted a total commitment of Rs 2,755 crore, a significant boost for the biogas industry. The IBA didn't stop at securing investments; they also fostered strategic agreements. These included the signing of joint ventures (JVs), memorandums of understanding (MoUs), and the receipt of letters of intent (LoIs). Companies from nations like Germany, Sweden, and Italy expressed a keen interest in the industry. Several MoUs for joint ventures, valued at over Rs 1,000 crore, were signed as a result. Additionally, the IBA received 54 LoIs for establishing compressed biogas plants within India.

The IBA plays a pivotal role in this success story. As the first comprehensive biogas association in India, it represents operators, manufacturers, and planners of biogas plants. It also collaborates with public policy, scientific, and research stakeholders. Established in 2011 and reinvigorated in 2015, the IBA is dedicated to promoting a greener future through biogas.

Collaboration is a linchpin for growth in the bio-energy sector. The IBA actively partners with international organizations, including the German Biogas Association, to enhance the development of bio-energy in India.

Government Support

Government backing is a crucial element of this success story. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, alongside numerous national and international industry leaders, provided support to the Bio-energy pavilion at the Renewable Energy India Expo, further highlighting the government's commitment to sustainable energy.

The expo itself is a crucial event in the renewable energy landscape, encompassing bio-energy, solar, wind, and energy efficiency technologies, including electric vehicles and battery storage. Its ultimate goal is to accelerate India's transition toward achieving net-zero emissions, a critical milestone in addressing climate change.

The President of the IBA, A R Shukla, emphasized the significance of the Renewable Energy India Expo, especially in light of the G20 Nations' announcement of the Global Biofuel Alliance. This announcement has injected a positive outlook into the biogas industry, further boosting its prospects.

The biogas sector is urging the establishment of a dedicated ministry or organization, akin to the National Skills Development Organisation.
